Challenge
Commodities traders needed to track benchmark prices across 100+ global markets (natural gas, oil, coal, steel, shipping, agriculture) but existing dashboards were fragmented. Traders manually cross-referenced multiple systems to get pricing data, forecasts, and market updates, slowing critical trading decisions.
The platform served users trading across many different markets who needed customizable, at-a-glance pricing information with weather and price forecasts that impact shipments and pricing.
Approach
Facilitated 3-day workshops in New York with commodity teams, department heads, and stakeholders to gather requirements and build consensus
Created blue sky concepts, user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity mockups
Designed customizable widget-based dashboards for different commodity markets (Americas Gas, Oil, Steel, Shipping)
Built mobile app dashboard for traders needing pricing data on the go
Conducted moderated video user testing to refine data visualizations
Collaborated daily with engineering in agile sprints to deliver iteratively
The workshop process involved brainstorming features including commodity data, sharing, commenting, alert setup, bookmarking, and displaying price changes alongside headlines. User testing informed widget ordering and personalization.
